Lot Essay

Rockstuhl does not appear to be recorded in Erich Köllmann and Margareta Jarchow, Berliner Porzellan (Munich, 1987), Vols. I and II.

Peter Ernst Rockstuhl (1764-1824) was a talented miniaturist who worked on a variety of media including enamel and porcelain. The present lot would appear to be from his period in St. Petersburg where he was court miniaturist from 1804 until his death in 1824. He usually chose to portray his subject in profile and is noted for this fine draughtsmanship.
