Griffin states, 'The Wall camera was originally developed in 1926 and 1927 for newsreel work and has recently been redesigned for use either in the studio or in the field. The camera can be equipped with either light-valve, flashing lamp, or galvanometer.'

The light-valve referred to would produce a variable density track photographically recorded onto the film and the mirror galvanometer would produce a variable area track. This latter system is fitted to no. 934 and became the more widely adopted.
