Lot Essay

The Acme Tool and Manufacturing Co. was best known for its 1944 Acme-Dunn optical printer which won a 1944 Academy technical achievement award, later upgraded to an American Academy Award of Merit in 1980. Designed by Linwood G. Dunn and Cecil Love it was built by Acme. The citation reads: 'The Acme-Dunn Optical Printer was manufactured originally in 1944 and remains in extensive use in the film industry. In concept, it was the first in basic design upon which a new generation of such optical printers was developed. Its capability to create unique special photographic effects has had a definite influence upon the advancement of the motion picture industry.'
