with white mohair, replaced eyes, pronounced clipped muzzle, black stitched nose, mouth and claws, swivel head, jointed limbs with velvet pads and hump, 1930s --17½in. (44.5cm.) high (patched holes in muzzle, pad spots of front and left arm, some general wear and discolouration); and a photograph of the original owner with this bear

Provenance
This bear was the childhood toy of Beryl Knocker who was born in October 1932. A letter written by Beryl appear in Teddy Bear Times, January 1997 '...from the age of two years lived on the outskirts of north London with my grandparents. Teddy was given to me some time between the years late 1934/5 and 1939....I think it is very likely that Teddy was bought from a department store or toy shop in the West End of London. He spent a lot of his early life 'getting married to Betty' (my big doll - shown on the left of the photograph, sadly Betty was left out in the rain and is no longer with us) and he made a very handsom groom! He lived through the London Blitz during the war, spending many night in the large brick shelter at the end of the garden, and many days collecting pieces of shrapnel from the roads around, along with Betty in the dolls' pram, being pushed by my sister and I.'
