A set of Japanese World War II Recognition models of British war ships
Shimadzu Seisakusho Ltd; Japan, circa 1940
each model carefully carved from wood, detailed with superstructures, armament and masts, painted battleship grey, with red waterlines and black details, and mounted on a faux ivory bases which double as a handle and a carved wake. Ships range from the largest capital ship to the smallest transport ship and include such notables as: HMS Nelson, HMS King George V, H.M.S. Revenge, H.M.S. Hermes, H.M.S. Achilles and others [40 total]. Each model is identified on the bottom and the slot in which she is stored (in Japanese), in the original wood box on four sliding drawers, sliding front panel with handle, inscribed in Japanese "Typical [Three] Types of Model Warships" with affixed makers label.
