Lot Essay

Galia Caruana was born in Kherson, Russia in 1904, daughter of Count Edwin Caruana and widow of Commendatore Vincenzo Gagliardi. This drawing of her was executed in 1933 in Genoa by Vsevolod Nicouline, an artist known primarily for his book illustrations - most notably that of Le Aventurra di Pinnochio in collaboration with author Carlo Collodi, published in Milan, 1944.
