A GERMAN (NUREMBERG) OVAL SHIELD
Late 16th Century (altered)
Re-shaped from circular, perhaps within its working life, rising to a convex centre fitted with faceted drop-shaped spike, four pairs of rivets for enarms, each with brass head formed as a human mask cast in relief, turned cabled edge, domed brass rivets retaining a portion of a leather lining, and the outer face rough from the hammer.
