A GERMAN LARGE SHAFFRON, IN THE STYLE OF CIRCA 1540
19th Century
With one-piece frontal plate drawn up to a boldly roped bifurcated medial ridge over the muzzle and with strong outward flange at the base, fitted with additional plates over the eye openings each embossed with a bold pattern of roping en suite with the muzzle, fitted with a pair of large side-plates fully enclosing the flanks, a pair of standing ear-guards, circular escutcheon applied with a spike, fluted borders and fluted subsidiary borders, and turned roped edges throughout.
