A GERMAN LEFT-HAND GAUNTLET
Circa 1600
With strongly flared pointed bracelet cuff embossed for the ulna, five metacarpal plates each cut with a bevelled dentil pattern accentuated by punched dots and incised double linear bands along their outer edges, fitted with an additional plate over the knuckle, the latter embossed with a cabled bar and the borders decorated en suite, mitten finger defences of six fluted lames each with dentil border, and articulated thumb defence of six lames (the finger and thumb lames associated).
