A COMPOSITE GERMAN SHAFFRON
The lower half, late 16th Century
Constructed in two halves, the upper half fitted with small side panels and standing ear-guards, the lower half drawn up to a pronounced incised cabled medial ridge and tapering to an outwardly flanged base, studded with domed brass lining rivets throughout, the edges turned and roped, the lower edges originally plain and partially roped to match the upper portion, and fitted with later poll-plate, plume-holder and escutcheon.
