A GERMAN HALBERD, IN LATE 15TH CENTURY STYLE
19th Century
With convex cutting blade cusped at the base and drawn up to a narrow central spike of flattened-diamond section, a triangular prong at the back, pierced with small arrangements of circles and a slipped trefoil, struck with a row of decorative 'Gothic' marks on both sides and struck with an additional mark on one face, the back slotted into a lateral narrow socket, the latter extending at right angles to form a rectangular rear prong, inset with a decorated brass plaque on two sides, the socket and prong each cut with rows of decorative marks, and the socket extending to form a pair of long straps with writhen ends: on an octagonal haft.
