AN ITALIAN TWO-HAND SWORD, IN LATE 16TH CENTURY STYLE
19th Century
With fine broad double-edged blade pierced and rounded at the point, inscribed with the date 'ANNO 1587' and 'RESPICE VINEM' within the two shallow fullers on respective sides at the forte, the outer-face struck with bladesmith's mark, large iron hilt cast in low relief, comprising long spatulate quillons, upper-and lower-rings, a pair of arms and an inner-guard, the principal surfaces pierced and decorated with warrior heads, battle scenes and scaled monsters, the pommel en suite, and leather-bound grip with early tassels.
