A FRENCH RAPIER, IN EARLY 17TH CENTURY STYLE
19th Century
With slender tapering blade of flattened-diamond section changing to flattened-hexagonal section, cut with the inscription 'BARTHOLOME DE NIERCE' within the short fuller on both sides at the forte and formed with a hollow-ground ricasso, swept-hilt of slender faceted bars, including a pair of straight quillons swelling toward the tips, three-ring outer-guard swelling towards the middle, the guard etched with panels of scrollwork and pellets, faceted globular pommel inlaid with silver foliage alternating with panels of silver diagonals, and spirally moulded grip bound with wire and 'Turk's heads'.
