The pistol 18th Century
With 19th Century leaf-shaped double-edged blade with turned baluster neck and fitted with a brass recurved guard, also 19th Century, brass handle enclosing the barrel, engraved with scrollwork, inscribed 'In Winhoring' on the top, and carrying external mechanisms at the sides (muzzle plug missing), in its 19th Century brass-mounted green leather-covered wooden sheath.

Cf. a similar knife and fork, sold in these rooms, 17 October 1973 (lot 199), each signed 'W.M.in Winhöring', possibly for a member of the Mann family, distinguished as makers of small boxes and both miniature pistols and cannon. Neue Støckel records Georg Adam Mann working in Winhering (Wincheringen) circa 1670.
