AN ITALIAN EXPANDING LEFT-HAND DAGGER, IN EARLY 17TH CENTURY STYLE
19th Century
With slender blade of rectangular section tapering to a narrow stiff-diamond point, fitted with a pair of pivoted side-prongs of triangular section moving on a spring action released by a sliding catch at the ricasso, gilt-iron hilt cast in low relief, involving grotesques, monsters and soldiers within panels of scrollwork, and grip bound with patterned wire.
