Mid-17th Century
With two-stage barrel formed with faceted and turned girdle and retaining traces of original blued finish, axe blade off-set to the plane of the socket, the left face flattened and the right struck with a circular saltire mark, plain wooden haft fitted with iron swivel for a lanyard, stepped flat rhomboid-shaped lock engraved with a bold pattern of scrolling flowers, the cock decorated with a monster, button trigger, and no provision for a ramrod.
