A EUROPEAN MODEL OF A MEDIEVAL SIEGE ENGINE (MANGONEL)
19th Century
French or Swiss, constructed to scale as a detailed working model, with wooden frame stamped twice with the maker's signature 'cognet' in miniscules on the underside, fitted with iron projectile arm moving on an axel engaging a pair of chain-link cams, these linked in turn to further cams moving on bedded springs arranged in two sets of three, and with windlass and release mechanism (some inactive worm, the wheels and spanning levers missing).
