A FINE AUGSBURG WHEEL-LOCK HOLSTER PISTOL (PUFFER), WITH MAKER'S MARK OF M.KLEIN

With swamped barrel formed in two stages, struck with Augsburg mark and maker's mark of M. Klein (Neue Støckel 3955), etched with panels of scrolling foliage over the length of the the breech section, and with a decorative cartouche of foliage etched immediately ahead of the girdle, flat lock decorated with a very similar pattern of etched scrolling foliage arranged in contour around the component parts, the wheel, pan-cover, safety-catch and the dog all etched with matching small panels of scrollwork, the latter also engraved with a monster and the wheel-cover pierced and cut with a pair of monsters matching that on the dog, ebonised full stock profusely inlaid with finely engraved staghorn panels variously decorated with cabling, strapwork and other border motifs all bordered by horn lines, all enclosing further horn plaques, including two part-human grotesques opposite the lock and a pair of opposing male and female herms about the barrel tang, slightly compressed spherical pommel en suite and involving a segmented band of horn rosettes, border-engraved horn pommel-cap, iron trigger-guard, engraved horn ramrod-pipe and fore-end cap, the former decorated with a warrior bust, a horn plaque inset over the ramrod aperture and engraved with a bird, and in fine condition throughout (the ramrod replaced).
