A TURKISH MIQUELET-LOCK CARBINE
Late 18th Century
With rifled octagonal barrel inlaid with silver foliage and scrollwork in clusters over its entire length, standing back-sight, and retained by three silver bands chased with scrolling foliage, silver-encrusted lock struck with maker's mark, wooden three-quarter stock inlaid with a series of differing patterns of minute brass nails and small brass geometric roundels, ornate panels of contrasting white horn over the rear, the butt also incorporating a section formed of contrasting fillets of dark and white horn, and with iron button trigger (ramrod replaced, fore-end chipped, the fore-end cap and small pieces of inlay missing).
