AN ARAB SHAMSHIR MOUNTED IN GOLD AND SILVER BELONGING TO SAÏD ALI, SULTAN OF COMORES
19th Century
With Persian blade signed within a gold cartouche 'Work of Asadullah' and dated 1(0)81 or (1)181 AH (circa 1670-71 or 1767-68 AD), silver crosspiece cast with the Basmala incorporating the date 1261 (1845 AD), chased silver pommel, ivory grip-scales, and in its original scabbard with decorated silver chape and silver suspension bands cast with texts from the Qur'an, surah al-Saff (LXI), parts of 13 (the scabbard covering chipped at the top).
