A COMPOSITE ITALIAN CLOSE HELMET FOR THE TILT
Late 16th Century
With one-piece skull rising to a cabled comb, pierced with small arrangements of circular holes behind the ears, incised 'GP' for Gioco del Ponte and the base adapted for turning on a gorget, bluntly pointed visor with narrow single sight, the lower edge drawn out to a flange fitting flush into the upper-bevor and locked by a spring-catch, pivoted bevor pierced with a circular group of breaths on the left, with hinged port-cover on the right, fitted with projecting bolt for attaching an exchange piece, and closed by a hook-and-eye, pointed lower-bevor flanged for the gorget and fitted with later arm for the upper-bevor, and fitted with plume-holder at the rear (the comb pierced with a series of holes for securing a plume, the visor and both the upper- and lower-bevors associated, the basal flange of the lower bevor partly restored).
