A Japanese lacquered Bunko (document box), 19th century
of rectangular form, the shaped cartouches variously decorated in coloured lacquers with a ho-o, minogame, tiger, dragon and kylin on a wood ground, surrounded by a boarder of foaming wave design, the interior with a shallow tray incised with shells and sea themed motifs -- 11 7/8in. (30.3cm.) wide.
