The oval plate in a moulded frame surrounded by palms, with shaped rockwork platform issuing two scrolled candlebranches with foliate nozzles, surmounted by a shaped plate flanked by smaller platforms, regilt, with paper label on the reverse 'Hay & Lyall Carvers & Gilders to the Queen Printsellers, Artists Colourmen & Opticians 2 Market Street, Aberdeen', the back inscribed '3.3-'

The Aberdeen firm of Hay & Lyall has not been traced. They were established in 1811 and the reference to the Queen on their label may indicate that they were responsible for regilding the girandole during Queen Victoria's reign.
