A JAPANESE IMARI BLUE, RED AND PARCEL-GILT DECORATED BOWL
EDO PERIOD, LATE 17TH/EARLY 18TH CENTURY
Of circular shape with scalloped rim, decorated to the inside with palatial houses and oxen amidst flowers, the outer side with conforming decoration, with underglazed double blue circle to the underside
4¼ in. (11 cm.) high; 13½ in. (34.5 cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

An identically decorated bowl, of slightly smaller size, most probably of the same service, is conserved in Palazzo Reale, Turin, in the primo mezzanino, prima stanza, and is illustrated in Porcellane e Argenti del Palazzo Reale di Torino, Turin, ill. 228, pp. 414-415.
