Lot Essay

This console table belongs to a rare suite of four executed for the Palazzo Serra di Cassano in Naples. Under the supervision of Carlo Vanvitelli, responsible for the royal commissions, a quantity of architects, designers and carvers were manufacturing amongst other pieces this particular type of console with its distinctive and highly pronounced tall cabriole legs, from which some of the best examples are visible in the collections of the Palazzo Reale in Caserta.
