(Lacks first blank, title with margins renewed, affecting some letters including date in imprint, R1 with outer margin renewed.) Modern calf antique. Provenance: some early marginalia on first woodcut and last blank.
FIRST EDITION. William Jaggard, who published Helkiah Crooke's Mikrokosmographia (see lot 26) successfully in 1615 asked Read to write this book as a pocket-sized abridgement of Crooke's much larger work. Appearing one year later, it re-used some of the smaller woodcuts from Crooke's book. RARE. Russell, British Anatomy 1525-1800, 681; STC 20782.
