2 volumes comprising: 8o text (209 x 130 mm) and atlas 2o (353 x 270 mm). Half-titles. 20 partially colored lithographed plates (some minor soiling, dampstaining to a few plates). Text in contemporary quarter calf, marbled boards, spine gilt and atlas in original printed boards (front cover of atlas detached, some wear, spine of atlas volume cracked). Provenance: library call sticker on spine of text volume.
FIRST EDITION OF BLANDIN'S TEXT, and second edition of the atlas, very rare with hand-colored plates. In this work Blandin, a pioneer plastic surgeon, "sought to integrate and show the relationship between anatomy and surgery" (Heirs of Hippocrates 1592). The twelve plates in the atlas are by Nicholas-Henri Jacob (1782-1871), a pupil of David, who would become famous for his collaboration with Jean-Baptiste Marc Bourgery.
