Images of this type were used in processions during festivals and are typical for eastern Himachal Pradesh; compare with a group of similar mohras (masks) in the Norton Simon Collection, see P. Pal, Asian Art at the Norton Simon Museum, vol. 2, 2003, pp. 51-57. A similar mohra of Shiva was sold at Christie's New York, 31 March 2005, lot 101.
