The lingzhi fungus, considered to have magical or supernatural powers, is a type of bracket fungi known as Ganoderma Lucidum, so named for its lobed appearance. Although found throughout the world, the lingzhi is especially popular in Asia, where it has been used for medicinal purposes for thousands of years. Because it is thought to have substantial health benefits, it has come to be known as the fungus of immortality, and is one of the most popular motifs used in Chinese art, commonly appearing with Daoist immortals and in the company of other auspicious emblems.
