Each similarly embroidered with branches of flowers growing from rockwork, one with hydrangea, rose and aster as well as a pair of long- tailed birds perched on a rocky outcrop, the other with peach blossom, nandina and lilies, all picked out in threads of blue, green, white, brown and red and reserved on a blue ground, each further embroidered with poetic inscription in the upper right hand corner as well as three seals

Lot Essay

The poem on the panel with hydrangea alludes to the dense blossoms and the glorious natural scenery in spring, and the last line, Du Xiang Jiang Sheng, attributes the poem to Jiang Shen, a Qianlong period official.

The seal to the upper right of the poem is illegible, and the other two seals to the lower left read Jiang Shen chu yin and xin xiang.

On the panel with the peach blossoms, the poem describes how auspicious plants complete the scenery for a festive day. The last line, Yun Xin Chu Ting Zhang, attributes the poem to Chu Ting Zhang, another Qianlong period official, whose scholar's name is Yun Xin.

The seal to the upper right of the poem is illegible, and the other two seals to the lower left read Ting Zhang chu yin and nian ba mu zhou.
