The body of oval section, each side molded in relief with a frolicking monkey between floral bursts and further impressed designs, within a border of raised bosses conforming to the outline of the vessel, with a pair of pierced leaf-form handles at the shoulder, all covered with a green glaze which continues onto the flared foot with almost flat base

Lot Essay

No other example of a flask of this type molded in relief with a frolicking monkey appears to be published.

The result of Oxford Authentication Ltd. thermoluminescence test no. C107f83 is consistent with the dating of this lot.
