Lot Essay
The shape of this vase is quite unusual. It is related to a heavier, less well-proportioned example of Yuan date illustrated by Zhu Boqian, (ed.), in Celadons from Longquan Kilns, Taipei, 1998, p. 179, no. 152. The shape is a more squat version of the shape of a Ding bottle vase, Northern Song dynasty, 12th century, in the Percival David Foundation, illustrated by S. Pierson, Song Ceramics - Objects of Admiration, London, 2003, pp. 20-1, no. 1.
