Christies is pleased to offer a selection of fine Chinese porcelains from the Estate of John B. Trevor, Jr. The majority of these porcelains was collected by his aunt, Emily Trevor, and her mother, Emily Norwood Trevor in the 1910s and 20s. Though the collection included some of the boldly painted famille verte porcelains that were all the rage in the late 19th/early 20th century, both mother and daughter shared an obvious fondness for the elegant and refined Imperial monochrome porcelains of the 17th and 18th centuries. Many of these were acquired from Duveen Brothers, the celebrated fine art dealership that sold works to major museums in the United States and Europe and to such prominent private collectors as J. Pierpont Morgan, Henry Ford 2nd and Henry E. Huntington. Emily Trevor was the sister-in-law of Grenville Winthrop, the famed art collector whose extraordinary collection was left to Harvard University in 1943. Upon her death in 1943, Miss Trevor bequeathed these porcelains to her nephew, John B. Trevor, Jr. A long-time resident of Palm Beach, Florida, Mr. Trevor died in 2006.
