Château Cos d'Estournel--Vintage 1985
Saint-Estèphe, 2me cru classé
Tasting Note: My original, very effusive notes, 'a perfect Cos from the start, then (aged 10) fleshy, complete, delicious', followed latterly, at a tasting in 2004, by 'soft chewy red, warm, mature, autumnal appearance; 'very Bordeaux', 'very fragrant' and a tick in the teeth, 'still hard on the palate'. Most recently, at a dinner sandwiched between the '83 and a good '88, noted as surprisingly deep and youthful; pretty mammoth (for an '85) lacking charm and the style of the vintage. Clearly the context has a bearing. Last tasted April 2005. At best ****? Drink now or keep 5 years. M.B.
