Edo-Meiji period (19th-late 19th century), signed Gyonen rokkujusai Shunsho saku and sealed Shunsho
Two-tiered stacking box of overlapping squares, one with lobed corners and decorated in gold takamaki-e, black hiramaki-e, nashiji and kirikane with a spray of hydrangeas with insect-eaten leaves running up the side of the box and across the cover, the surrounding areas bright kinji, the adjacent square decorated with blossoming autumn flowers and grasses with butterflies in gold, silver, red and black hiramaki-e with highlights of aogai and kirikane, the roiro-nuri ground embellished with hirame, the interior removable tray designed with blossoming water lillies on a pond with water insects rendered in polychrome hiramaki-e and togidashi against a roiro-nuri ground; box interiors nashiji with fundame edges; signature on side
