Muromachi period (16th century), signed Kanetsune
Sugata [configuration]: hon-zukuri, iori-mune, chu-kissaki, slightly koshi-zori
Kitae [forging pattern]: ko-itame mixed with mokume with nie
Hamon [tempering pattern]: choji gunome in nioi, nie, aranie with ashi, yo, sunagashi and tobi-yaki
Boshi [tip]: midare komi, hakikake
Horimono [carving]: wide bo-hi on both sides
Nakago [tang]: ubu with taka no ha file marks and two holes, one plugged
Habaki [collar]: double, gold
Nagasa [length from tip to beginning of tang]: 27in. (68.6cm.) long Motohaba [width at start of tempered edge]: 1¼in. (3.2cm.)
Sakihaba [width before tip]: 7/8in. (2.3cm.)
In shirasaya [plain wood storage scabbard]
Koshirae [set of mounts]: comprising a black-lacquer and ray skin saya polished so that the ray skin shows through the lacquer surface and fitted with a Waki-Goto school shakudo nanako-ji kozuka and kogai decorated with sea birds in waves by rocks in taka-bori and gold taka-zogan, the tsuka wrapped in black-lacquered ray skin and finished in leather wrapping with gold Chinese-lion menuki and mounted with a fuchi lacquered black with stylized dragons in gold lacquer and a shibuichi migaki-ji kashira carved with waves; iron Kanshiro school sukashi tsuba carved with mitsu tomoe and decorated with scrolling vines in gold hira-zogan, 37 7/8in. (96.2cm.) long
