A Mother-of-Pearl-Inlaid Lacquered Wood Chest

Rectangular, with hinged shallow lid and fitted with a metal tongue lock and lockplate, inlaid in mother-of-pearl against a ground of brownish-black lacquer on the lid with four auspicious bats surrounding a longevity medallion within double-line borders, inlaid on the front with two square panels of elements of the Ten Signs of Long Life (Shipjaengsaeng), inlaid on the side panels with bees, peonies and rocks and on the back panel with a pair of song birds on a flowering plum; interior lined in cloth
