The present lot should be dated towards the late 1650's, on the basis of comparison with the picture of a waterfall, signed and dated 1658, which was with A. Brod, London, 1959 (photograph in the R.K.D., The Hague). At the end of the 1650's both Jacob van Ruisdael as well as Klaes Molenaer were influenced by the Scandinavian landscapes of Allart van Everdingen
