Lot Essay

Features of the design can be seen on Grecian seat furniture supplied in 1826 for Newliston, Scotland; and was popularised by Thomas King's 'Modern Style of Cabinet-Work Exemplified' (1829) (see F.Bamford, Dictionary of Edinburgh Furniture Makers, 1983, pl 44A).
