Loggerhead Shrike (Plate 57)
Lanius ludovicianus
engraving with etching, aquatint and hand-coloring, 1829, on J Whatman, with full margins, uneven staining overall (particularly in the upper quadrant), scattered foxing, surface soiling, a small pinhole in the upper right image (beside the bird's tail), several black smudges at the edges extending inward (occasionally into the platemark), a tear in the upper right corner (with associated loss), glue remains at the upper left, lower center and right upper sheet edge, mat and time staining
