The broken pediment surmounted by three urn finials and centred by a panel depicting a mythical sea monster, above an arched bevelled mirror within a frame of drapery and floral swags, dolphins, bulrushes and cornucopiae centred by two portrait medallions, atop a cabinet of trapezoid form with central drawer above a door inlaid with a roundel depicting cherubs at play, the sides with similar scenes each framed by foliate decoration, the interior with one fixed shelf, on lion-paw feet to the front and bun feet to the back

Lot Essay

The engraved ivory figures to this cabinet are comparable in quality to those of Ferdinando Pogliani whose Milanese workshop flourished during the 1860s and 1870s and led the North Italian revival of the use of ivory inlay in Renaissance and Baroque style furniture.
