The source of the present micromosaic depicting two gleaners has been identified as the painting The Young Harvester (1883), by the Spanish artist Maria Jaspe y Moscoso (see Sotheby's, Monaco, 8 December 1990, lot 385). An excerpted micromosaic version of the same subject, showing just the standing figure, is illustrated in J. Hanisee Gabriel, The Gilbert Collection - Micromosaics, London, 2000, p. 122, no. 63.
