Lot Essay

This clock is a later variation of the model attributed to François Vion which depicts the Three Graces, possibly after Falconet, entwined with each other in support of the orbit movement. There is an example from the Isaac de Camondo collection on display in the Louvre. A nearly identical model to the present lot, undated but thought to be late 18th century and showing the Three Graces with arms outstretched, is illustrated in Tardy, La Pendule Française, Paris, 1981, vol. III, p. 291.
