In 1925 Marius Bauer was invited by the committee of the residents to visit the Dutch East Indies. The committee had been appointed to prepare a gift for H.M. Queen Wilhelmina and H.R.H. the Prince Consort, on the occasion of their silver wedding. At the request of this Committee Marius Bauer made four etchings as a special gift. Two of them represent old Indian architecture, the remainder two represent popular scenes. Of each etching there were 100 impressions, which were offered to H.M. Queen Wilhelmina, who presented sets of them to different government and private institutions.
