This is a superb and exceptionally large example of its type, with intricately executed detail. Few comparables exist in public collections; compare with a slightly later figure of Vairocana in the Berti Aschmann Collection, see H. Uhlig, On the Path to Enlightenment, 1995, cat. no. 25, p. 65.
