Tibeto-Chinese, Pala revival, 18th Century
Very finely cast standing in tribhanga on a double-lotus base with beaded rim, her hands held in the gesture of teaching and compassion and flanked by lotus stalks rising up on either side from the base, wearing a short dhoti inlaid with silver flowerheads and beaded festoons, her face with a benign expression painted in cold gold and surmounted by a foliate tiara, her hair tied in a bun on the reverse

This bronze follows Indian Pala period prototypes, of which various examples were in the Chinese Imperial collection and which inspired the production of revival pieces during the Qianlong era.
