A rare bronze figure of Buddha
Khmer, Angkor Period, Angkor Wat Style, second half 12th Century
Seated in dhyanasana with his right hand in bhumisparsa mudra, wearing a thin dhoti secured at the waist with a belt, adorned with multiple bracelets, earrings and a wide torque, the face with full lips and large eyes, the hair held in place with a tiara, the reverse of the hair and jewelry also detailed, with a smooth olive green patina overall

Images of crowned Buddhas first emerged in Northeastern India between the 9th and 11th centuries and inspired the evolution of a related iconography in Southeast Asia. This is a rare example with striking arched crown with a smooth, silvery green patina; for a related example, with similar headdress, but of smaller size and less elaborate execution, see G.
