Decorated throughout with paterae, quatrefoils and interlocking lancet lozenges, the door with gothic arched mirror and mirrored trefoils flanked by cluster column pilasters with lancet-cut capitals, with similarly mirrored sides and enclosing shelves, with a drawer below on turned feet

Lot Essay

This armoire is conceived in the fashionable goût gothique of the 1820s and 1830's, popularised by Jean-Josse Caron Ainé in his Manuel de l'ébéniste of 1836. Although relatively little known for much of his career, Caron was commissioned to supply several pieces of furniture to the Garde-Meuble in 1837 shortly before his death.
