Lot Essay

Planitz arrived in Rio de Janeiro on the Antónia in January 1831. For his work in Rio de Janeiro in the 1830s to c.1840, and his rare album of lithographs 12 Vistas do Rio de Janeiro see G. Ferrez, Iconografia do Rio de Janeiro 1530-1890 Catálogo Analitíco, Rio de Janeiro, 2000, I, pp.469-476.
