Lot Essay

'The picture shows a traveller on the road to Valparaíso with a view of the mountains on the west side of the Central Valley, the so-called littoranean mountains. As is suggetsed by the size and the technique, the picture and the 'View of el Membrillo, near Valparaíso', belong together and were probably painted at the same time.' (Pablo Diener, private communication, August 2007)
